Dean, John C. Moore

John Moore received his Ph.D. in Linguistics in 1991 from UC Santa Cruz and has been on the UC San Diego Linguistics faculty since 1992. His research has been in the areas of theoretical syntax, lexical semantics, and Spanish linguistics. His current research includes work on the syntax of Moro (central Sudan), and Spanish, as spoken in the San Diego-Tijuana border region. Before assuming the role of Dean of Undergraduate Education, Dean Moore served as Department Chair, Chair of the Committee on Academic Personnel, Provost of John Muir College, and Chair of the Council of Provosts.

Outside academia, Dean Moore has played flamenco guitar semi-professionally for nearly 50 years and continues regular performances. In 2008 he released a solo guitar CD Cinfución and has another - Amordediosero - in production. Moore has recently begun to publish on flamenco topics, including several Ethnomusicology articles and an annotated translation of José Luis Ortiz Nuevo’s classic Mil y una historias de Pericón de Cádiz (A thousand and one stories of Pericón de Cádiz).

Associate Dean, Christine Alvarado

Christine Alvarado received her PhD in Computer Science from MIT in 2004. In addition to serving as Associate Dean for DUE, Christine Alvarado is also a Teaching Professor and holds the Paul R. Kube Chair in the Computer Science and Engineering Department. Her scholarship focuses on designing curriculum and programs to make computing and computing education more accessible and appealing, with the specific goal of increasing the number of women and Black, Latinx, Native American and Pacific Islander students who study computing.

Outside of work, Christine enjoys doing yoga and running marathons (half and full). She spends plenty of time with her husband and two (middle- and high-school-aged) sons--sometimes traveling to fun places, but often just driving them around San Diego. She is also a certified US Swimming Official and frequently can be found on a pool deck around San Diego, hoping not to have to disqualify young swimmers.

Assistant Dean, Pamela Frugé

Principal Project Policy Analyst, Hailey Caraballo

Hailey Caraballo is responsible for performing high level analysis on a wide variety of policies, programs, projects and issues. She participates in the development of new programs and executes implementation plans for workgroups and committees that are managed by the Division of Undergraduate Education.

Academic HR Analyst, April Burcham

April Burcham is responsible for academic personnel administration for the Dean of Undergraduate Education (DUE). She also is the DUE liaison to the student-run Course and Professor Evaluations (CAPE) and manages the Freshman and Senior Seminar Programs.

Executive Assistant, Ana Martinez

The Executive Assistant (EA) to the Dean of Undergraduate Education is responsible for managing the Dean's and the Associate Dean's calendars. The EA helps to coordinate several committees and working groups, and is a main point of contact for the Division.
