Triton Research and Experiential Learning Scholars (TRELS) Seminar Program

The Triton Research and Experiential Learning Scholars (TRELS) program was initiated in 2018 by UC San Diego’s six (now eight) Colleges. TRELS empowers students to pursue intellectual opportunities beyond the classroom, by providing support in the form of funding and/or mentorship. This program is intended to expose students to experiential learning, including, but not limited to research, guided artistic or creative projects, and public service opportunities, under the guidance of a UC San Diego faculty member. There is a particular emphasis on serving students who may face obstacles in pursuing such opportunities.

The Research Seminar is currently on pause. Students can still pursue TRELS opportunities - learn more here.

We invite faculty from all disciplines, including Arts and Humanities, to submit a Research Seminar Proposal. You may access the submission form below. If you have any questions or need assistance with the proposal submission, please contact Provost Leslie Carver at 858-534-4004.

Research Seminar Goals

Research Seminars should have the following goals:
  1. Orienting students towards research in a disciplinary area (department or division). Research is defined to include scholarly or creative activity in the context of any academic discipline.
    • Topics include: research groups, typical research projects, and specific faculty projects.
  2. Developing a research, art, service, or other project idea
  3. Preparing a project proposal
  4. Approaching faculty members
  5. Identifying potential mentors
Ideally, the seminars offered would be distributed across disciplines/divisions.
